Design & Build Quality

The JPX is engineered as a precision instrument, not a toy platform. The frame is aluminum and polymer composite, water-resistant and shockproof, with internal valve systems designed to withstand decades of storage without performance degradation. The trigger is clean and positive with an 8.5 kg (18.7 lbs) pull — intentionally heavy to prevent accidental discharge.

The defining advantage of the JPX is the pyrotechnic primer system. Unlike CO₂ or compressed air, which lose pressure in cold temperatures, the primer cartridges maintain consistent output across -20°C to +60°C environmental range. This is operationally critical: stage a JPX in a car, basement, or outdoor location and it will perform identically in July or January. No other platform in this roundup makes this guarantee.

Performance & Delivery System

The JPX fires liquid OC at 590 fps (180 m/s) in a concentrated jet pattern — not an aerosol cloud, but a focused stream that penetrates wind and moisture far better than traditional pepper spray. The jet velocity is nearly half the speed of a bullet and the delivery window is approximately 0.7 seconds per shot. Effective range is 23 feet; beyond that distance, the system becomes ineffective.

Two shots per device means this is not a rapid-engagement platform. Each JPX is a two-round magazine. For home defense, this is acceptable — the vast majority of home-defense scenarios involve single-threat engagement. The high concentration of active agent (400K SHU) in each shot means first-round capability is high; repeat shots are unlikely to be necessary with quality aim.

Propulsion System — Primers vs. CO₂

The pyrotechnic primer is the JPX’s defining advantage. Each trigger pull activates a primer cartridge which ignites and pressurizes the OC chamber. This system is inherently reliable and temperature-independent — no dial adjustment, no environmental sensitivity. Cartridges maintain charge indefinitely when stored properly; there is no “expiration” in the traditional sense.

This is operationally superior to CO₂ for home defense. A JPX staged in a nightstand will perform identically whether it was stored at 95°F last summer or 25°F last winter. CO₂ systems require environmental compensation and lose performance in temperature extremes — the JPX does not.

Projectile & Agent Type

The JPX deploys liquid OC, not projectiles. The agent is pharmaceutical-grade oleoresin capsicum in a dense formulation (approximately 10 grams per cartridge) at approximately 400K SHU potency. This is substantially more OC mass than typical pepper spray canisters and significantly higher concentration than projectile-based systems.

The liquid jet design means the OC contacts the target’s face in a concentrated stream rather than dispersing into a cloud. This delivers maximum agent concentration to facial areas with minimal wind resistance and minimal collateral exposure — important in shared living spaces (apartment buildings, bedrooms with family present).
