Design & Build Quality
The T4E TP50 Gen2 is a compact, polymer-framed .50 caliber pistol with a tube magazine positioned below the barrel — a layout that gives it a slightly different balance and profile compared to the grip-fed HDP 50. At 682 grams and 213mm in length, the two pistols are nearly identical in size and weight, but the under-barrel tube gives the TP50 a more shotgun-like feel in hand.
Construction is predominantly polymer with solid fit and finish for the price class. The Gen2 update brought refined grip texture and an improved trigger guard. The double-action-only trigger is consistent shot to shot with no external hammer to snag. An automatic trigger safety prevents accidental discharge when handled or holstered.

Power System — 12g CO₂
The TP50 runs on a single 12g CO₂ cartridge. Umarex’s Gen2 Quick-Pierce system is tool-free: the cartridge is loaded but only pierced when the user activates it, meaning the pistol can be stored with CO₂ installed and sealed until needed. - Lower energy output: At under 13 joules, the TP50 is a deterrent-class tool. Purpose-built home defense launchers deliver 2–5× more kinetic energy.
- ~12 shots per CO₂: No quick-swap magazine. Reloading requires replacing both the CO₂ cartridge and refilling the 6-round tube.
- Cold weather degradation: CO₂ performance drops noticeably below 60°F, reducing velocity and shot count.
- Smoothbore barrel: Effective accuracy range is roughly 15–20 feet. Beyond that, consistency drops off.
- Gelatin paintball incompatibility: Umarex explicitly advises against gelatin-fill paintballs in this platform.
