Design & Build Quality

The Sentry 68 is PepperBall’s most compact .68 caliber launcher, designed to be holster-carried and rapidly deployed. The lightweight polymer construction keeps the unloaded weight at just 1.1 lbs — notably lighter than most .68 cal platforms. At 9 inches long and 6.5 inches tall, it presents a footprint close to a full-size duty pistol.

The defining build feature is the patented Puncture Air System (PAS™): unlike standard CO₂ pistols where the cartridge must be replaced immediately before use, the PAS™ allows a 12g cartridge to be pre-punctured and sealed within the launcher for weeks without significant gas loss. This makes the Sentry 68 viable as a ready-stored defensive platform — load it, holster it, and it stays ready without needing a fresh cartridge each use.

The 5-round magazine feeds standard PepperBall rounds and VXR™ long-range projectiles. An ambidextrous 1911-style safety provides familiar operation for shooters trained on conventional pistols. A Picatinny accessory rail on the underbarrel allows attachment of lights or lasers. The Sentry 68 is available in black, yellow, and clear variants.

Performance & Ballistics

The Sentry 68 achieves a maximum range of 150 feet with PepperBall VXR™ long-range projectiles, and standard LIVE™ rounds are effective at similar distances. At the launcher’s operating velocity of approximately 280–300 fps, standard PepperBall LIVE™ rounds burst on impact and release a PAVA powder cloud that creates an area of effect extending well beyond the point of impact.

The VXR™ projectile is particularly notable: designed for long-range deployment, it maintains trajectory and terminal velocity significantly better than standard round projectiles, making 150-foot engagements realistic under controlled conditions. This extended range is one of the Sentry 68’s primary competitive advantages over other compact .68 cal platforms.

The PAS™ system ensures consistent operating pressure at the time of firing regardless of how long the cartridge has been installed — removing the unpredictability of a freshly-pierced cartridge that hasn’t stabilized. Each 12g cartridge supports 20+ shots at operating pressure, giving the 5-round magazine well within one cartridge’s capacity for a full engagement.

Handling, Controls & Ergonomics

The Sentry 68 is designed specifically for holster carry and rapid deployment. The 1.1 lb weight makes it comfortable for extended wear on a duty belt or in a holster, and the 1911-style ambidextrous safety is intuitive for both right- and left-handed users with any pistol background.

The 5-round capacity is a limitation compared to larger PepperBall platforms, but appropriate for a compact pistol designed for close-quarters deployment. The Picatinny rail enables weapon light attachment, which is relevant for home defense scenarios where low-light identification is a priority before deployment.

The compact form factor and holster compatibility make the Sentry 68 more practical for daily carry than larger carbine-style less lethal platforms, while the 150-foot range significantly outperforms sub-compact competitors like .50 cal pistols. This combination of carry-ability and range is the Sentry 68’s core value proposition.

Ammunition Compatibility

The Pepperball Sentry 68 is chambered in .68 cal caliber and is compatible with the following projectile types:

• PepperBall LIVE™ — Standard .68 cal PAVA powder projectile — bursts on impact to release an incapacitating chemical irritant cloud. Effective at up to 150 feet.
• PepperBall VXR™ — Long-range fin-stabilized .68 cal projectile — compatible with the Sentry 68 for extended range precision deployment.
• PepperBall INERT™ — Inert practice round — identical ballistics to LIVE™, used for training and accuracy drills without chemical agents.
